UNO coach Dean Blais announced Thursday the signing of the hockey recruiting class for 2014-15, including long-time commitments Jake Randolph and Tyler Vesel of the Omaha Lancers and David Pope from West Kelowna of the British Columbia Hockey League. Also on board for next season is 2012 signee Jake Montgomery from Sioux City of the USHL.
Also part of the class are Avery Peterson, Montgomery’s Sioux City teammate, and Muskegon teammates Steven Spinner and Luc Snuggerud. All are forwards, with the exception of Snuggerud, a defenseman.
“We are very excited by our incoming class for 2014,” Blais said. “These players will bring great skill and speed to our lineup. They are the kind of players who will have an immediate impact on our team and help us compete for championships in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.”
Randolph, from Duluth, Minn., leads the USHL in scoring with nine goals and 25 assists for 34 points. Vesel, from Rochester, Minn., is third in the USHL in scoring with 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points.
Pope, an Edmonton, Alberta, native and fourth-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings, has six goals and 10 points in 10 games — he’s the only incoming recruit not currently playing in the USHL.
Peterson, from Grand Rapids, Mich., is a sixth-round pick of the Minnesota Wild who has three goals and eight points for the Musketeers. With Muskegon, Spinner and Snuggerud, both from Eden Prairie, Minn., have each appeared in three games and recorded three points. Both are expected to rejoin their high school teams.
