Sgt. Peffer's – a popular Italian cafe in Omaha – is opening a third location, this one in Carter Lake.
The restaurant will open its doors on Dec. 1, said Tim Peffer, who owns a location in Omaha at 1501 N. Saddle Creek Road.
“We breathed new life to it, and it's a fantastic location,” Peffer said. “We're going to be Carter Lake's family restaurant.”
Peffer, a Missouri Valley native, said he wants to be a part of Carter Lake, noting the city is strengthening its identity as a community.
“This place has that feel, and it's a refreshing small town,” he said.
The new store, located at 111 E. Locust St., will be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and open until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The restaurant will stay open longer during the summer.
Peffer plans to cater to nearby businesses and eventually deliver to hospitals in Council Bluffs.
“We'll have to crawl before we walk, and walk before we run,” Peffer said.
The restaurant will offer home delivery to Carter Lake residents and feature seating for 60 customers inside. An outside patio will face the Shoreline Golf Course.
Mayor Russ Kramer said the restaurant will a big success for Carter Lake and its residents.
“He's got a great model,” Kramer said of Peffer. “It'll bring people to town.”
Another Omaha store is located at 13760 Millard Ave. and is owned by Charlie Thompson, a former employee who worked for Peffer.
