An eruption of gunfire early Tuesday afternoon ended with a vehicle crashing into a fire hydrant near 44th Street and Ellison Avenue and one suspect in custody.
A second suspect remained at large, despite a police search of the neighborhood.
The incident began when police received a report of shots fired in the area of 41st Street and Ames Avenue. It appeared the shots were fired from a vehicle, possibly at a second vehicle.
On their way to the scene, police encountered the suspect vehicle, which then ran through a stop and crashed into the hydrant.
Both suspects ran from the vehicle, but police were able to apprehend one of them. The suspect's name was not immediately available.
Police deteremined that the vehicle had been reported as stolen. A stolen weapon was found inside it, they said.
