LINCOLN — The Nebraska volleyball team added two local products and another recruit familiar with the program on Wednesday when the Huskers officially signed their three-member class of 2014.
Lincoln Pius X libero Sydney Townsend, Waverly outside hitter Olivia Boender, and Maddie Haggerty, an outside hitter from Glen Ellyn, Ill., all signed letters of intent and will join the NU program next year.
“All three of those guys need to come in here and have a chance to help,” Nebraska coach John Cook said, adding the team will bring on at least one, and possibly two walk-on candidates next year in addition.
Haggerty, the younger sister of current Husker Meghan Haggerty, was named a second-team Under Armour All American, but missed much of this season with a shoulder injury.
Townsend and Boender, each of whom have been named All-Nebraska players by the World-Herald, are both preparing to lead their respective teams in the Class B state tournament which starts Thursday in Grand Island.
