America has spoken: The best time for women to give birth to baby No. 1 is 25 years old, according to a new Gallup opinion poll.
Nearly six in 10 people surveyed said women should ideally have their first child when they are 25 or younger. Most people surveyed said men should starting having children at age 26 or older.
Young adults and seniors are the most likely to think a woman should have her first child before age 25.
Those who believe women should delay parenthood were more likely to have completed higher levels of education.
Gallup reported in its summary that although some medical experts say women are most fertile in their late teens and early 20s, today's cultural norms – such as the importance placed on education, pursuing a career and finding the right partner – trump becoming pregnant at an early age.
Gallup polled 5,100 adults in the U.S. for the survey. For more information, click here.
