Canfield's Sporting Goods, near 84th Street and West Center Road in Omaha, is hosting a Ladies Night on Thursday.
The rugged outdoors store is typically dotted with male customers, but owner Rick Canfield said they'll be turned away between 7 and 9 p.m. during the annual event.
Ladies Night is a way to thank the store's female clientele and hopefully introduce women who aren't outdoorsy to the store.
Women who attend will receive 15 percent off their purchase, excluding Scouts uniforms. There will also be complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres, as well as a raffle. The first 200 women in the store will receive a free goody bag, too.
Canfield expects between 400 and 500 women.
“We love doing it,” he said. “It's really fun.”
Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Greater Omaha Area Trail Runnerz, or G.O.A.T.z., and trail development at Cunningham Lake in Omaha. The G.O.A.T.z. group works to promote trail running, produce trail races, improve and maintain the trail system as well as support other trail advocacy groups.
“It seems like a no-brainer partnership,” said Jody Green, who will represent the group at the store. She said Canfield's and G.O.A.T.z. share the same vision: Both support the active community and local trail system.
Green, of Omaha, hopes to spread awareness about trail running at the Ladies Night event. She might do some shopping, too.
She said Canfield's is “a hidden gem. ... I always walk away with something,” like hydration packs for long-distance races. Trail runners also often camp the night before a race, she added, and Canfield's has plenty to offer in that department.
“It's like an outdoorsy person's Target,” she said.
To attend Ladies Night, women must reserve their spot online at canfields.com or by calling 402-393-3363 by Monday.
