LINCOLN — Gothenburg banker Matt Williams has announced he will run for the Nebraska Legislature.
“I will work hard to attract good-paying jobs and a positive economic development environment for small businesses and families in central Nebraska,” Williams said.
A fourth-generation banker, Williams is chairman and president of Gothenburg State Bank and recently finished a term as chairman of the American Bankers Association. He also serves as a trustee for the University of Nebraska Foundation and on the Board of Directors for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Innovation Campus.
In September, Williams said he was considering the Republican nomination for governor in 2014 but was “strongly leaning” toward a campaign for District 36 in the Legislature.
State Sen. John Wightman of Lexington, who currently represents District 36, can't run for re-election because of term limits.
