One person was killed and two people were injured Thursday afternoon in two separate traffic crashes in western Iowa.
About 2:50 p.m., Raetahne Thomas, 26, of Walthill, Neb., was killed and Ricky Kellogg, 43, of Tekamah, Neb., was injured in a two-vehicle crash north of Council Bluffs in Monona County on Cherry Avenue south of county road K42, the Iowa State Patrol said.
The patrol said Thomas was northbound on Cherry Avenue in a 2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette van and Kellogg was southbound on Cherry Avenue in a 1985 Mack semitrailer truck negotiating a curve when the vehicles crashed in a driver-side to driver-side sideswipe. Thomas' van came to rest in the west ditch while Kellogg's semi overturned on the roadway, the patrol said.
Thomas was pronounced dead at Burgess Hospital in Onawa and Kellogg was taken to Burgess to be treated for his injuries.
About 2:55 p.m., Donald Hardisty, 72, of Corning, Iowa, was injured and taken to Alegent Creighton Health Mercy Hospital in Corning in another two-vehicle accident at 150th Street and Corning Carl Road in Adams County west of Des Moines.
The patrol said Shayne Larson, 21, of Red Oak, Iowa, was westbound on 150th Street in a 1993 Ford F-350 pickup truck and Hardisty was southbound on Corning Carl Road in a 1993 Ford Ranger pickup truck when the crash occurred. The patrol said Larson pulled into the intersection after a complete stop. Hardisty swerved to avoid striking Larson's pickup, the patrol said, but was struck by Larson's truck. Hardisty's pickup was pushed into the west ditch and rolled.
Larson was not injured.
Both accidents remain under investigation, the patrol said.
