This is a bit unusual: Stand-up comedy at the zoo.
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium will host its first comedy night Nov. 8.
And we're not talking herpetologists roasting Gila monsters. These are professional comedians.
“We're starting to establish more adult-centric events at the zoo,” said Dawn Ream, the zoo's marketing and communications director, “events for people who don't have kids but still want to be involved with the zoo.”
The comedians, Austin Anderson and John Bush, will perform inside the Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium. Which, you know, different vibe for a comedy show.
There will also be cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres and a few special guest animal encounters.
“This and other events down the road are some of our efforts to reach more people,” Ream said. “The more people we can get engaged at the zoo, the more we can teach about wildlife and conservation.”
Ultimately, she said, everything circles back to saving the animals. Even the dirty jokes.
