DES MOINES (AP) — Freedom appears to be over for a pot-bellied pig nicknamed Willie.
After weeks on the loose in an east-side Des Moines neighborhood, Willie was caught in a live trap near a dental office, residents say.
Animal control workers took the roughly 200 pound animal into custody.
Some neighbors had grown fond of the black pig, which kept its distance from residents but could frequently be seen gnawing on grass or other vegetation.
But some grew annoyed at the bare dirt the pig would leave behind after rooting up grass.
Josh Colvin, Des Moines' animal services manager, earlier had said city workers were taking a slow approach to capturing the pig because they didn't want to frighten the animal and send it into traffic, potentially causing a wreck.
