Longtime Omaha World-Herald staff member Nancy Gaarder has been honored by the National Weather Association with the Walter J. Bennett Public Service Award.
The award was announced during the 38th annual NWA meeting; this year's meeting runs Oct. 12-17 in Charleston, S.C.
According to the NWA website, Gaarder was honored "For her dedication and passion to communicate timely, accurate, and thorough meteorological, climatological, and hydrological issues to the citizens of Nebraska and western Iowa for the past 17+ years."
Gaarder has been a reporter and editor at The World-Herald since 1995. In addition to her beat reporting, she updates Nancy's Almanac, a blog with timely weather information.
