Founding Fathers' ideals focus of community chat
The public is invited to a community conversation about Thomas Jefferson and the ideals of the Founding Fathers at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Dundee Dell, 5007 Underwood Ave.
The event, hosted by Humanities Nebraska, is entitled “Are the Founding Fathers Still Relevant?” The free and public program will be moderated by Timothy R. Mahoney, history professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Elaine Marie Nelson, assistant professor of history at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
This discussion is a precursor to the 18th annual Governor's Lecture in the Humanities, which will focus on Thomas Jefferson's intellectual development. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed will deliver the free public lecture on Oct. 30 at the Joslyn Art Museum.
Annual meeting to be Sunday for Benson Plant Rescue
Benson Plant Rescue will hold its annual meeting from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Lauritzen Gardens, First and Bancroft Streets. People who are not garden members will get free admission to attend the meeting.
World-Herald gardening columnist Jan Riggenbach will talk about rescuing plants.

Women's Connection to meet for talk, lunch, fundraiser
Reservations are due by Wednesday for the Oct. 21 fall fundraiser of the West Central Women's Connection. Baskets, baked goods and other items will be sold. Ann Henzlik of Chisago City, Minn., will be the guest speaker.
The group is affiliated with Stonecroft Ministries. The luncheon meeting will be at the DC Centre West, 11830 Stonegate Circle. The $12 cost includes lunch and the program. The buffet line opens at 11:45 a.m. and closes at 12:15 p.m.

Governor's Arts Awards need nominations soon
The Nebraska Arts Council, Nebraskans for the Arts and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment seek nominations for awards to be given at the 2014 Governor's Arts Awards event on March 24, 2014.
