AVOCA, Iowa — City officials are moving forward with a project to make it easier for residents to reach Edgington Memorial Park.
The Avoca City Council this week unanimously approved a $243,849.50 bid for Dixon Construction of Correctionville to construct a pedestrian bridge that will span the East Nishnabotna River to connect East Thomas Street to the park.
The bridge will provide a quicker route to the park for those who live on the east side of Avoca, City Manager Clint Fichter said. “Your choices were either swim across the river or walk down Highway 83,” he said.
Fichter said the city has not decided when construction will begin.
