MILWAUKEE — Marquette kept Creighton off the scoreboard, which kept the Bluejays from taking the top spot in the Big East standings.
The Golden Eagles beat No. 7 Creighton 1-0 Saturday at Valley Fields, improving to 4-0 in conference play and maintaining the Big East lead.
The Bluejays, tied for second coming into the game, dropped to 6-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the league.
In the 23rd minute, C. Nortney scored his seventh goal of the season and what turned into his fourth straight game-winner. It was the first goal the Bluejays allowed as a member of the Big East.
Creighton junior Alex Bolowich returned from a three-game absence (Achilles tendinitis) to make five saves. Counterpart Charlie Lyon had four saves to earn the shutout.
Marquette (8-3-1) has shutouts in five of its past eight matches.
The Bluejays continue their road trip next week with a nonconference match at Michigan on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
