Of the many benefits laid out by developers of Nebraska Crossing, one has already surpassed its projections.
After the Sept. 28 Nebraska Crossing job fair in Gretna, the Smart Outlets of Nebraska Crossing found it will create more than the originally estimated 500 jobs as various brands have announced employment numbers.
“We’re looking closer to 1,000 now,” said Sarah Nelson, a Nebraska Crossing Outlet representative.
Nelson, who was at the Gretna High School job fair, said the fair brought in 250 to 300 guests. However, she and other staff soon found out the mall would need more.
“Once we started talking to the brands ... we realized 300 people wouldn’t be enough,” she said.
For instance, the Nike factory store plans to hire 125 part-time and full-time employees, Forever 21 is seeking 100 workers and the Gap outlet aims to have more than 50 workers by the Nov. 15 open.
The list goes on — the Eddie Bauer outlet needs about 30 workers, Banana Republic and Wilson’s Leather factory stores each plan to hire up to 50 people. And that’s only six of the more than 65 retailers and eateries that will occupy the new Nebraska Crossing Outlet mall.
While the Gretna job fair drew heavily from the area, Nelson said there is still hope for those who were unable to attend as the mall will host a second job fair at Burke High School, 12200 Burke St., in Omaha, on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., which includes 19 brands as of press time, though it may be more on the day of the event.
“We get registrations every day for the fair,” she said.
Nelson also said Nebraska Crossing is considering having a third job fair based on the number of jobs needed, though there are no official plans at this time.
