Turf installation for UNO's conversion of Caniglia Field from football facility to soccer pitch continues at a slow pace.
The $1.2 million project could be completed by Oct. 18, in time for both the men's and women's teams to play their remaining three home games at the new site. The project, started in March, was knocked behind schedule because of the long, wet spring.
But the high-tech turf was finally being put down Monday. It will be cushioned with a combination of coconut husks and cork that keeps the playing surface cooler than the typical crushed rubber filling.
