CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A Dubuque man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for selling heroin to someone who overdosed and died from the drug.
The U.S. Attorney's Office saids 50-year-old Alvin Stanley Briggs Jr. was sentenced Monday in Cedar Rapids. He must also serve five years of supervised release.
Briggs pleaded guilty in July to distribution of heroin resulting in death. He admitted that he sold $100 worth of heroin in July 2012 to an individual identified in court filings only as S.R. The person later died as a result of using the drug.
