NewEra Salon is having a grand opening this Saturday.
The new four-chair salon, on 72nd Street and Cornhusker Road, will have a children’s and snack area. They will also provide iPads at each dryer station for customers to use while they’re hair is finishing.
Co-owner, Maggie Swartz said, what sets this salon apart from others in the area, is that the salon will close down two evenings a month to host how-to classes. Groups will be able to participate in daddy and daughter classes, braiding classes and more.
The host of the party will earn salon points for every person who participates in classes.
“I am really excited about the daddy and daughter classes,” Swartz said. “It’s for the dads that don’t really know what to do with their daughters’ hair.”
NewEra is also going to team up with a different organization to help each month.
For example, during the salon’s grand-opening event, customers who bring in a canned food item will get the chance to pop a balloon to receive a prize.
Prizes that will be given away include gift cards to various local restaurants and businesses, homemade craft items for the autumn season, photography packages, salon gift cards and hair product packages.
Other activities during the grand opening include a Mohawk and a braid station, a disc jockey and a bounce house.
The chance to help them give to organizations won’t stop after the grand opening. Swartz said they are planning to collaborate with as many organizations as want to participate.
Every month the salon will continue giving to the community. For example, Swartz said she will try to do a coat drive at some point during the winter.
“We want to do something different,” Swartz said. “We want to be known for helping the community.”
