EVANSTON, Ill. — Nebraska, despite being outshot 18-4 in the second half, defeated Northwestern 2-1 Friday to extend its winning streak to five games.
The Huskers (7-2-1, 2-0-0 Big Ten) scored twice in the first half as Katie Kraeutner opened the scoring in the 20th minute, taking Caroline Gray's corner kick and converting from 18 yards out.
Nebraska extended its lead in the 37th minute, as Jordan Jackson scored off an assist from Sydney Miramontez. Jackson's 29th career goal moved her into a tie for ninth all-time at NU.
Northwestern (2-6-1, 0-2-0) came out aggressively in the second half, outshooting Nebraska 8-0 in the first 13 minutes of the half. The Wildcats cut their deficit to 2-1 at the 58:39 mark when Kate Allen converted a penalty kick.
Overall, the Wildcats outshot Nebraska 24-10 while Husker keeper Emma Stevens made six saves.
Nebraska next plays at Illinois at 1 p.m. Sunday.
