KEARNEY, Neb. — A Kearney mother has been charged with child abuse after her newborn tested positive for marijuana and methamphetamine.
Rochelle Reiter, 33, is charged in Buffalo County Court with felony child abuse of her baby born Sept. 13. Reiter was arrested Friday, posted 10 percent of $5,000 bail Tuesday and is free.
She is scheduled to appear in court in October. The Buffalo County Public Defender's Office was appointed to represent her.
Court records outline the case against Reiter:
Reiter gave birth to her child at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Reiter's attending doctor noticed Reiter acting strangely and believed she showed symptoms of drug use. Reiter tested positive for amphetamines, and the infant allegedly tested positive for meth and marijuana.
The child was placed in custody of the State Department of Health and Human Services.
