Drafthouse Cinema has plans for screens, restaurant by Werner Park

A venue with food, drinks and movies all under one roof has announced plans for a location on the corner of 126th Street and Highway 370 next to Papillion's Werner Park.

Drafthouse Cinema and Entertainment Center will feature an eight-screen cinema and restaurant with dozens of draft beers, a video arcade and a laser tag course.

Construction for the 52,000-square-foot project is expected to start at the end of the first quarter next year and finish by late summer, said Trenton Magid, principal of World Group Commercial Real Estate in Omaha. The project is part of the 310-acre mixed-use development known as Pennant Place, located between 120th and 126th Streets along Highway 370.

It would be the first business development outside Werner Park.

“What's exciting about it is that Omaha's never seen anything like it,” said Magid, who is the co-listing agent with Des Moines area commercial real estate firm 360 Real Estate Services. Roger Langpaul, who is managing broker for the firm, is the developer for Pennant Place.

According to its Facebook page, Drafthouse Cinema “offers in-theater food and beverage service that includes an extensive menu of freshly prepared appetizers, salads, pizzas, wraps and sandwiches, as well as hand-crafted beers and great wines.” It will be “a one-stop shop for a date night, birthday party, social gathering or just a day out with the kids.”

Sound Management LLC is under contract to buy eight acres of land from Schewe Farms Inc. and will own Drafthouse Cinema, Magid said. Calls to Tyler Calabrese, senior vice president of Sound Management, weren't immediately returned Wednesday.

Papillion city officials have met with the developer and its partners but haven't received a development agreement or building permit. Magid said they plan to submit a development agreement next month and building permit after Jan. 1.

Papillion community relations coordinator Darren Carlson said that while the city is excited about the project's potential, “there's still some work that needs to be done.”

“It could be a really excellent fit for that area,” he said.

Magid said the project would add to other development expected for the area. A roughly 300-home development called North Shore is finishing grading. Apartments and villas also are planned.

Magid said he's also received interest from restaurants and sports bars that want to move into the area because “we've got the anchor of Werner Park,” he said.
