Several residents near Benson High School called Omaha police early Monday to report multiple gunshots being fired.
Officer Carlie Potts, a police spokeswoman, said officers who went to the area near 50th and Maple Streets about 2:10 a.m. found numerous shell casings on Maple Street from 49th to 51st Streets.
A homeowner who spoke on the condition that he not be identified said he was awakened by what he first thought was a string of firecrackers. Gunshots occasionally are heard in the area, but the latest incident “was something I haven’t heard before,” he said.
Officers found one vehicle, a 2007 Jeep Liberty, that had been struck by gunfire. There were no reports of victims taken to hospitals.
