Christian Garcia scored the equalizing goal with just less than 9 minutes left to help the UNO men’s soccer team to a 1-1 draw against UMKC on Tuesday at the UNO Soccer Field.
The Kangaroos (1-3-3) took a 1-0 lead late in the first half on a goal by Jordan Rideout. The Mavs (1-5-1) outshot UMKC 14-2 in the second half as they tied the match on Garcia’s first career goal.
The teams each played short-handed in the second half after UMKC goalie Kevin Corby and UNO forward Craig Buettner were issued red cards in the 63rd minute after a melee in the six-yard box.
In overtime, the Mavs outshot UMKC 3-1 but couldn’t net the winner. UNO finished with a 22-6 shots advantage and 7-2 edge in shots on goal.
