LINCOLN — Nebraska residents are receiving state recognition for their emergency preparedness and response efforts.
Lt. Gov. Lavon Heidemann on Friday announced the winners of this year’s Be Prepared awards, given to volunteers and community groups. The awards are sponsored by the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency and the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center.
Heidemann said this year’s winners provided educational training and support to community volunteers to help them respond to emergencies. Some of the winners helped create websites and local volunteer registries, while others were credited for their response to the 2011 Amtrak derailment near Benkelman.
The full list of winners is available on the governor’s website, www.governor.nebraska.gov.
