CLARION, Iowa — A Kanawha man who pleaded guilty last month to drunken driving nearly a year after the car he was driving hit and killed his girlfriend has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Jonathan Roelofsen, 29, was sentenced last week in Wright County District Court in Clarion. He was also ordered to pay a $1,875 fine.
Investigators said 26-year-old Sabrina Reibsamen was walking on a rural road south of Kanawha on Aug. 27, 2012, when Roelofsen’s car hit her.
Prosecutors declined to charge Roelofsen with vehicular homicide, citing an Iowa State Patrol investigation that found that alcohol did not cause the accident. But Roelofsen was charged with operating while under the influence, second offense.
