The newly elected, nine-member Omaha Public Schools board now has only eight members.
Sarah Brumfield, who represented Subdistrict 9 in South Omaha, resigned because of family reasons. Brumfield recently had her second child.
Board President Justin Wayne read her resignation letter at Monday’s school board meeting.
The board has 45 days to appoint her successor. Interested residents in that OPS subdistrict may apply for the seat.
Brumfield was first elected to the board last November. Brumfield ran again after the Nebraska Legislature ordered new elections and shrunk the board from 12 members to nine earlier this year.
Her latest term began in June.
“I appreciate Sarah’s dedication over the last year,” Wayne said. “It’s been an interesting and crazy year with a lot of changes.”
