Margaret Powers, a senior midfielder from Omaha Marian, has been knocked out of Iowa State's starting lineup by a broken jaw.
Her mouth was wired shut after she was hit in the face by a ball during a recent practice. She hasn't decided if she'll try to return this year or redshirt.
Powers was named the team's most improved player in 2011 and last year was picked for the Big 12's all-academic first team.
UNO coach Don Klosterman has followed Powers' career since she attended his camps as a youngster.
“She's an example of a kid who really worked her way into being a really good Division I player,” he said.
