UNO coach Dean Blais announced the Mavericks’ hockey captains for the 2013-14 season on Thursday.
Senior defenseman Michael Young will serve as the captain, with senior forward Johnnie Searfoss and junior forward Dominic Zombo serving as alternate captains.
All three players are wearing a letter for the first time in their collegiate careers.
“These players will be new to the role of captain this season, but they have been leaders through their hard work for us throughout their careers,” Blais said. “They clearly have the respect of their fellow players who chose them for these important roles. All three players have the ability to set good examples for their teammates both on the ice and off.”
Young, a native of Calgary, Alberta, has played in 111 career games for the Mavs, with 10 goals and 36 assists for 46 points along with 68 penalty minutes. Last season, he tied his career high, putting up 16 points to finish third in defenseman scoring.
