Glenwood senior Spencer Smith carried 27 times for 281 yards and four touchdowns, and also made eight tackles in Friday’s 38-19 win over Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson. He’s only 5-foot-10 and weighs 161 pounds.

Q: How sore were you after the game and Saturday morning?
A: I was pretty sore. After the game, I went home and went straight to bed. I couldn’t even celebrate. Saturday, I could barely move. I iced my legs and had a pretty leisurely day.
Q: Have you ever carried that many times in a game?
A: No, that was my career high.
Q: Were you confident that your team would come away with the win?
A: During the game, our starting quarterback got hurt and I worried about our chances, but we pulled it out. I’d like to credit our offensive line. They played great.
Q: Last year you carried a total of 64 times for 537 yards. Did you expect to be the featured back this year?
A: In the offense we run, we have to spread the ball around week to week. I’m always ready to go.
Q: Your team is off to a 2-0 start. What do you feel your team is capable of?
A: I feel we are definitely a playoff-quality team. Our season goal is to make the playoffs. We will see where we can go.
Q: Have you ever participated in the playoffs?
A: I’ve never participated in the playoffs before. It would be the pinnacle of my sports career to win a championship.
Q: What does your coach Cory Faust bring to the program?
A: He’s a really intense guy and very enthusiastic. He’s a great strategist and play caller. He believes we can win, and every week we are prepared to play and we haven’t had that before.
Q: What other sports do you play?
A: I swim for the Lewis Central team and run track.
Q: What is your favorite sport?
A: Definitely football.
Q: Who’s your favorite running back?
A: Arian Foster. I love his background story. He came out of nothing to be great.
Q: What’s your favorite music?
A: Anything but country.
Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: Fried rice. My Mom makes it for me before every game.
Q: What do you like about school?
A: I love learning and I like challenges.
Q: What do you do for fun?
A: I like to go out to eat with my girlfriend. My favorite place is Buffalo Wild Wings. I like the hot wings.
Q: Any future plans?
A: No specific plans. We will see how it plays out. Football is a possibility.
