Attention, Sarpy County nudists, perverts and free-spirit exhibitionists: The County Board has its eye on you.
So put some clothes on.
The board got its first look Tuesday at a draft ordinance banning public nudity throughout the county, with a few exceptions.
State law already forbids public indecency generally, but Sarpy County's proposed ordinance describes in more detail what that means.
Passing a public nudity ordinance — as well as new zoning regulations for sexually oriented businesses, which is expected on next week's agenda — was on Sarpy's to-do list after Nebraska counties obtained ordinance authority in 2009.
This would be only the second ordinance the county has passed since receiving authority, Sarpy County spokesman Fred Uhe said.
The task of drafting a proposal fell to Deputy County Attorney Bonnie Moore when she was hired in January.
The ordinance wouldn't apply to children younger than 5, breastfeeding mothers, actors in theatrical productions or people in dressing rooms, restrooms, locker rooms, hospitals or nude modeling studios.
A violation would be a class three misdemeanor, with a maximum penalty of three months in jail or a $500 fine, Moore said.
The board will hold a public hearing on the matter in a few weeks, after cities are notified.
