Welcome but unexpected rain fell across the Omaha metro area, bringing about a modest amount of moisture to the city, which is in the midst of a severe drought.
Van DeWald, meteorologist for the National Weather Service, said that Omaha Eppley Airport recorded 0.32 inches through 10 a.m.
DeWald said the rain that fell in the metro area was from a storm system that had been expected to travel farther north across the state and not drop this far south.
"It did catch us a little by surprise," he said.
The system that doused Omaha was fairly narrow, hugging the Missouri River valley along the Nebraska-Iowa border before it moved eastward.
Areas to the north did get forecasted rain. About one to two inches fell just south of South Sioux City.
