Omaha’s Salute to Labor opens Friday for four days
Septemberfest Omaha: Salute to Labor will run Friday through Monday in parking lot D of the CenturyLink Center, 455 N. 10th St.
Activities will include live music, a 10 a.m. Monday parade, children’s events, car show, barbecue, rib-eye steak cook-off and food.
Hours are 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and noon to midnight other days. Admission is $4; children younger than 5 are admitted free.
A shuttle will run from these free parking locations: Gallup, Miller’s Landing and the now-closed Rick’s Cafe Boatyard. Shuttle hours will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and noon to 8 p.m. Monday.

Garden club photo contest has ‘At the Park’ theme
The Plattsmouth Garden Club has chosen the theme “At the Park” for its photo contest. “Park” covers anything from a local city park to a national park or monument, a baseball park, a zoological park — even a parking lot.
Enter your photos in person from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 5 at First Methodist Church, 702 Main St. in Plattsmouth, Neb.
Rules, entry forms, and instructions for entering by mail are available at plattsmouthgardenclub.com. Divisions are children (through age 12), teens (13-19) and adults (20 and older).
National Audubon president to be keynote speaker
The Wachiska Audubon Society of southeast Nebraska will celebrate its 40th anniversary at its annual dinner Sept. 8 at Lincoln’s Hillcrest Country Club. National Audubon Society President David Yarnold will be the keynote speaker.
Advance reservations, $30 each, for the 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. event are due by Friday at WachiskaAudubon.org or by calling 402-486-4846. Expect a cash bar, silent auction, dinner, dessert and speaker.
