Green Plains Renewable Energy plans a ribbon cutting ceremony today for the Atkinson, Neb., ethanol plant.
In June, the Omaha-based ethanol producer that markets and distributes about 1 billion gallons of ethanol each year purchased the north-central Nebraska ethanol plant and a storage and loading facility about 15 miles east of the plant for $15 million in cash. The plant had been idle since June 2012.
Now, said Green Plains president and CEO Todd Becker, the plant is running at full capacity. Green Plains has 42 employees in Atkinson with only one more position to fill as of Monday.
“The communities of Atkinson and O'Neill were very helpful in our efforts to restart this plant over the past few weeks,” he said in a statement. The company officially began plant operations on July 22.
The event will last from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, with U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer in attendance.
