Trailers: The world ends (again), horror and Billy Bob Thornton

So many movies, so little time.

This summer's jam-packed film calendar brings three new wide releases to the theaters this weekend: "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," "You're Next" and "The World's End." For those keeping score, that's 11 wide releases in three weeks.

No film is tracking over $12 million for the Friday-through-Sunday crowd; "Mortal Instruments," with a wide release Wednesday, should see a $12 million three-day haul, followed by "You're Next" at $11 million and "World's End" at $10 million, according to the latest box office projections.

"Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" is adapted from a Cassandra Clares 2007 novel. Production begins next month on a film adaption of the second book in Clare's six-part young-adult series, "City of Ashes."

"You're Next" hopes to grab the horror-hungry audience that turned out in troves for "The Purge" in June and "The Conjuring" in July before "Insidious: Chapter 2" hits theaters Sept. 13.

"The World's End" teams director Edgar Wright and co-writer/star Simon Pegg for the first time since 2007's "Hot Fuzz." "Hot Fuzz" and "Shaun of the Dead," released in 2004, remain critical (and cult) favorites.

The video-on-demand circuit stars Billy Bob Thornton, Robert Duvall, Nicolas Cage, John Cusack, Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara.
