GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Hall County Board members voted unanimously Tuesday morning to put up to $10,000 into a legal fund to try to retain the Grand Island Veterans Home.
An additional $20,000 is expected to come from three other entities. Donations of $5,000 each would come from the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corp. and the Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce, which will hire a law firm to research the city’s legal options, and the Grand Island City Council will vote next week on contributing $10,000.
Grand Island has been home to the veterans home for 126 years. Gov. Dave Heineman announced in July that a new Central Nebraska Veterans Home will be built in Kearney provided that federal funds could be obtained.
