A new group working to improve conditions in north Omaha is trying to round up 10,000 people for a march against violence.
The Thrive Center Omaha march will start at 9 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of 16th and Lake Streets.
Participants will move along Lake between 16th and 30th Streets, along 30th Street from Lake Street to Ames Avenue and on Ames from 30th to 42nd Streets.
Thrive Center co-founder Joseph Shannon Jr. said 10,000 marchers would “make an impact. That is a number that will make history. That is a number that will show true unity.”
The nonprofit organization helps youths and adults with job training and leadership skills.
Leaders are planning to open a business to pay for training, education and early childhood education classes.
Following the march, Thrive Center will host a celebration at Fontenelle Park from noon to 4 p.m. There will be music, food, prizes and more.
