A vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed hit a stop sign and crashed into a gate and retaining wall at the Gerald R. Ford Birthsite and Gardens, Omaha police said.
One person was injured in the accident.
Nathan S. Jandreau, 28, a passenger, was taken to a local hospital following the crash, which occurred about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The driver of the 1996 Ford Explorer left the crash scene, police said.
Witnesses told police that the Explorer was speeding northbound on 32nd Avenue when the driver lost control, crossed Woolworth Avenue and slammed into the memorial.
