BLAKESBURG, Iowa — Three teenagers face charges in the placing of explosives in the Blakesburg Public Library's book drop, police said.
Police ticketed one 17-year-old and two 16-year-olds with reckless use of fire or explosives. The charge is a serious misdemeanor.
Chief Deputy Don Phillips said police had received a citizen's tip about the explosion, which was reported July 24.
The blast was caused by pressure built up by chemicals inside a bottle.
No one was injured and there was only minor damage to the book drop.
Police also were investigating whether the teens placed a similar bomb inside a historic cannon in Blakesburg's city park, Phillips said.
