BLAKESBURG, Iowa — The Wapello County Sheriff's Office is investigating the explosion of a small bomb in a library book drop in this southeast Iowa community.
Librarian Rebecca Brittain said the “homemade bomb” was found in the Blakesburg Public Library's book drop on Wednesday morning.
Wapello County Chief Deputy Don Phillips said the explosion was caused by a chemical reaction inside a Gatorade bottle.
No one was hurt, but Phillips said the explosion could have caused acid burns to a passerby.
The Sheriff's Office and Iowa State Fire Marshal's Office ask that anyone with information about the matter call authorities.
The explosion caused less than $100 damage to the drop box and books inside.
