Class A: T. Hurt Construction stays alive

T. Hurt Construction (Omaha Burke) stayed alive Sunday at the Class A American Legion state tournament, defeating DiGiorgio's (Omaha Gross) 8-1.

Ryan Cate tossed a three-hitter and struck out seven to lead the way. Kirby Leblanc and Austin Plath each had two hits to lead the winners, who advance to play Monday at 4 p.m.

DiGiorgio's, which lost to Grand Island Home Federal in the first round Saturday, was eliminated from the tourney.

Pinnacle Bank 9, Westco Zephyrs 5

Lincoln Pinnacle Bank (Lincoln Southwest) struck for four runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to post the victory.

The loss eliminated Westco (Scottsbluff) from the double-elimination tourney and ended its season at 35-17.

Pinnacle, which was hammered 15-1 in the late game Saturday night by Roof Tech (Millard West), bunched four hits in the first against Westco starter Beau Lofink.

The lead grew to 7-0 before the Zephyrs broke through in the fifth. Four hits, including a two-run double by Robbie Cantril, brought Westco within 7-4.

Pinnacle Bank advances to play a 1 p.m. game Monday.
