People in the Omaha metro area should be on alert for possible thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for most eastern Nebraska and parts of Southwest Iowa, including Douglas, Sarpy and Pottawattamie Counties.
The storms could include large hail and strong winds, and they are expected to be strongest from the late afternoon to the mid-evening.
Severe weather is expected to extend across the central United States, according to AccuWeather.com, The World-Herald's private weather consultant. Travel and outdoor plans from Oklahoma City to Omaha to Minneapolis could be affected, AccuWeather said, and flash flooding is possible in parts of the Great Plains and Upper Midwest.
