Separate traffic accidents Monday morning at three locations on westbound Interstate 80, including one involving a police cruiser, left traffic stacked up after at least two lanes were closed because of the crashes.
The first accident occurred at 11:25 a.m. on I-80 at 60th Street and involved two vehicles, including the cruiser.
Police said a K-9 officer was struck from behind while conducting speed enforcement on I-80.
The officer suffered minor injuries and his dog appeared to be fine. The other driver was taken to Bergan Mercy Hospital with serious injuries.
At 11:35 am, a secondary accident occurred a couple of blocks east of the original wreck due to "rubbernecking,'' police said.
And about 20 minutes later, two more vehicles, including a semitrailer truck, became involved in an accident at westbound I-80 and 42nd Street.
About 12:45 a.m., all I-80 westbound lanes had reopened, police reported.
