A fire displaced as many as 60 people from The Chateau Apartments in Bellevue.
The fire started shortly after midnight Friday in the kitchen of a second-floor unit and quickly spread. Three or four units suffered damage, Bellevue Police Department spokesperson Laurie Synowiecki said.
Firefighters had to cut a car-sized hole in the roof of building 505, the structure where the fire started, to ventilate it, Synowiecki said.
The residents of the apartment and neighbors escaped safely. No injuries were reported.
Utility companies shut off gas, water and electricity to the impacted building following the fire, forcing residents of buildings 501, 503, 505 and 507 to find temporary shelter.
The Red Cross helped 27 residents find a place to stay for the night, according to a release.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
