Sunfest, Beertopia's giant annual craft beer-tasting event, is happening Saturday.
The event will give ticketholders the chance to sample 250 varieties of beer, many of which were brewed exclusively for Sunfest or aren't yet available to the general beer-drinking public, said Chris Bettini, a bartender at Beer Corner USA, Bill Baburek's bar conglomerate at 36th and Farnam that houses Beertopia.
Lincoln's Empyrean Brewing Company has made a Barenjager & Hibiscus version of their Chaco Canyon blonde ale, which will be available exclusively at Sunfest. Kansas-based Tallgrass Brewing will unveil a Plum Farmhouse ale in advance of its release.
In addition, Infusion Brewing Company, Baburek's newest project set to open later this year, will offer sneak peeks of several beers on its menu, including their kolsch. The version available at Sunfest will be infused with fresh oranges through a process called randalling; it's a process Bettini said brewers at Infusion plan to employ often.
The event will also feature music by Drew Jude and the Cool Tones. Admission includes a souvenir tasting glass and the opportunity to talk to representatives from many of the participating breweries.
The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Beer Corner USA, 3578 Farnam St. Tickets are $27 in advance and $32 at the door (though Bettini expects the event will sell out early on Saturday) and are available at Beer Corner USA or online at www.etix.com.
