A hot, muggy start to the 2013 U.S. Senior Open golf tournament should be followed by a brief midweek cool-down.
Highs today and Tuesday are forecast in the low to mid-90s in Omaha, but the humidity will make it seem warmer, according to Dave Fobert, meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
Humid conditions could make today feel like 100 degrees and Tuesday 105 degrees, Fobert said.
"The good news, is that we won't stay humid with a high heat index for a prolonged period," he said.
A cool front should drop temperatures back into the mid-80s by Wednesday.
Today and Tuesday bring a chance for storms across the region.
The area at greatest risk for severe weather today is northern Nebraska. On Tuesday, southeast Nebraska and Iowa are at greatest risk. On both days, the storms could be severe with strong winds and large hail.
By the weekend, another chance for storms returns, and highs are likely to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.
