DES MOINES (AP) — A downtown Des Moines bar that was instructed by state regulators to stop a weekly home brew beer night is resuming the popular event because of a new state law.
Owners of el Bait Shop say the Jimmy Carter Happy Hour will begin on Thursday, about three months after the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division told them to stop.
At the time, state law didn't allow home-brewed beer to be consumed outside the home. But new legislation signed in April allows home brewers to share their concoctions as long as no money is exchanged. It went into effect July 1.
The home brew event is named in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, who signed into law a bill that allowed home brewing.
