Chet Fortune is working to get the community moving.
The 29-year-old Bellevue native and co-owner of Warrior Fitness in La Vista is one of the trainers leading the Fitness Challenge of the Heartland. It's a free, boot camp-style fitness class at Stinson Park near 67th and Center Streets every Sunday at noon.
“It allows people instruction with a trainer, and it's a fun, group atmosphere,” Fortune said. “It opens a door for people who may be on the fence about fitness.”
The free classes, which are open to all ages, will continue every Sunday through August 4th.
Fortune said the class focuses on using a person's own body weight to exercise, including moves like body weight squats, lunges and jumping jacks.
About 50 people took advantage of the first free workout last Sunday. Fortune said he is hoping to draw 150 to 200 people for the remaining classes.
“There's nothing like being a positive influence in someone's life,” he said. “I would do it for free every day if I could afford to.”
