Lot 2 Restaurant and Krug Park are bringing back their popular Plates and Pours series, which pairs food and beer in four events.
The series starts July 21 with an “Upscale Picnic” theme. The menu features a fresh take on the classic picnic food, and will include barbecued meat, potato salad, baked beans and matching summertime beers. Other dinners: The Pacific Northwest on Aug. 18, the Oktoberfest Feast on Sept. 29 and New England on Oct. 20.
All the dinners will feature a four-course meal along with beers brewed in collaboration among Lot 2, Krug Park and John Fahrer, an Omaha brewer.

Campaign aids cereal exhibit
If you're looking to contribute to a Kickstarter campaign, the national Museum of Food and Drink needs funds to pay for its very first exhibition.
The museum, in New York City, needs to raise $80,000 to fund the show, “BOOM! The Puffing Gun and the Rise of Breakfast Cereal.”
The show will explore the science behind cereal production and look at how cereal became a giant industry. The centerpiece of the exhibit will be an authentic, fully-functioning puffing gun, a 3,200-pound machine based on technology that revolutionized the cereal industry in the early 1900s and originally produced puffed cereals such as Kix and Cheerios.
Long term, the directors of the museum and its advisory board, which includes chefs Mario Batali, David Chang, Wylie Dufresne and Anita Lo, hope to create a brick-and-mortar museum. Until then, it will play host to pop-up exhibitions like the one about cereal. Eventually, it hopes to tour the exhibitions nationally.

Mini-tour paved with beer
Old Chicago is celebrating Independence Day with a mini-tour of American beers.
The tour features eight American-brewed craft beers including Rogue American Amber, Newcastle Bombshell, Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy and Anchor Liberty Ale.
Members of the Old Chicago World Beer Tour who complete the America's Mini Tour by drinking all eight will receive the special Mini Tour T-shirt, a limited-edition design selected in a vote by World Beer Tour members.

Meals feature taste of summer
Fleming's Steakhouse is unveiling a new seasonal menu.
The summer “taste the season” two-course menu will be available through the end of August and features cuisine inspired by the season.
For $40.95, diners will get chili lime prawns with ancho pepper sauce followed by either a filet mignon with a warm rosemary and goat cheese mousse, or a pecan-crusted Scottish salmon with Dijon mustard tarragon sauce served with seasonal asparagus.
An additional a la carte side includes tender summer squash with French green beans sautéed in white wine sauce. A signature Caribbean rum punch cocktail is available for $9.95 and a dessert, chocolate cake, chocolate ice cream and Chantilly cream, is $7.95.

Courses paired with beer
The Woodcliff Restaurant in Fremont, Neb., is having its first beer dinner.
The restaurant's chefs will prepare a four-course meal to be served on the restaurant's patio. Each course along with its beer pairing are being revealed one at a time on the restaurant's Facebook page, at facebook.com/thewoodcliffrestaurant.

Tour to help those in need
Fazoli's and Feed the Children are raising money to aid tornado victims in Moore, Okla., and others in need of food around the country.
The “Breadstick for Hunger Tour” will be in Omaha Tuesday and Wednesday. As a part of the tour, Fazoli's has created a new flavor of lemon ice named “Giving Grape Lemon Ice” and will donate $1 to Feed the Children for every one it sells throughout the summer. Last year the tour distributed nine tons of food to families in need and raised $50,000.
