The goal, former Nebraska defensive lineman Steve Warren said of his free football camp Tuesday night, is simple: Teach kids the things he wished he'd known in high school.
The second annual Warren Academy's Varsity Showcase — a 6 p.m. camp at Omaha Central High School — will also feature several former Huskers as camp coaches. Demoine Adams, Zack Bowman, Clinton Childs, Damon Benning, Jon Bowling, Jay Foreman, Courtney Grixby, DeAntae Grixby, Joel Makovicka, Niles Paul, Pat Ricketts, Khari Reynolds, Tony Veland, Matt Vrzal and Eric Warfield are among the ex-Nebraska players who will put 9th-12th-graders through position drills for roughly two hours.
“It's a chance for us to give back,” said Warren, who trains many Omaha-area football players, including Nebraska commit Mick Stoltenberg and NU offer Harrison Phillips. “There's a lot of talent around here to cultivate.”
Warren said 70-80 athletes showed last year. He expects a few more this time. Warren said athletes only need to show up with cleats, gloves and water bottle. Registration begins at 5 p.m.
