Be a hero: The Superhero 5.8K Run to Benefit CASA of Douglas County will begin at 8 a.m. July 13 at Turner Park. Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero. You can run the 5K or a half-mile fun run/walk. Team entries are welcome. To participate (a fee is involved) or to donate, visit runtobenefitcasa.com/. Proceeds will go to CASA of Douglas County. Court Appointed Special Advocates are volunteers who work in the court system on behalf of neglected or abused children.
Fore! Golf4Grace, a fundraiser for Grace University, will be July 22 at Indian Creek Golf Course, 3825 N. 202nd St. This annual tournament supports scholarships. This event is a four-person tournament. Registration, $150, includes 18 holes, lunch and the reception. Sign-in will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by 11 a.m. lunch and a noon shotgun start. Volunteers needed: The Rose Theater is seeking volunteers of all ages to serve as ushers, assist with box office and other administrative tasks, sell concessions, and help backstage and in the costume shop. Day, night and weekend shifts are available. For each show or event a volunteer works, he or she will receive two vouchers redeemable for two tickets. All volunteers must attend one of the volunteer orientation meetings, scheduled at 6 p.m. Aug. 15 and 10 a.m. Aug. 17. Challenge grant: Lee Sapp has issued a $25,000 challenge grant to the Brownville Community Foundation. The foundation must match the grant with donations from the community. Sapp is an ambassador of the foundation, which seeks to enhance the historical, cultural, environmental, educational and recreational objectives of Brownville.
